Founded in 1971 as a subsidiary of Rohm, Exar Corporation developed analog, mixed-signal, and power management ICs, and was best known for its high-performance UARTs and RS-232, RS-422, and RS-485 interface transceivers, along with DC/DC regulators and LDO power control devices. Exar was acquired by MaxLinear in 2017, and many of its long-life communication and power parts remain in demand for legacy networking, telecom, and embedded systems. AERI continues to source and test hard-to-find Exar components.
