Last Friday’s fire is yet another blow to the semiconductor industry.  The fire at the AKM Semiconductor plant last year, COVID slowing down production, and the unpredictable demand from different sectors of industry has the electronic components market in a frenzy.  The automakers have been hit particularly hard.  This Renesas plant manufactures many automotive components and it is expected to take at least one month to get it back online.  The CEO of Renesas, Mr. Hidetoshi Shibata stated “I’m concerned that this will have a very big impact,”  It is expected that the company will lose over $200 million in revenue this year due to the fire.
